Long before Nyra Valoch drew breath, before kingdoms carved borders in blood and priests lit their first holy flames, the world bowed to two gods—Light and Shadow.
One promised creation.
The other, consequence.
But on the night the heavens cracked open, both were betrayed.
The sky above the Forbidden Vale shimmered like broken glass, each shard reflecting a different nightmare. A storm churned—not of cloud or thunder, but of whispering shadows, thousands of them, twisting like ink spilled across a dying sun.
At the center of the storm, upon a throne carved into the roots of the world, the Shadow God stirred.
His body was not a body. It was darkness shaped into something vaguely human, shifting and rippling as if struggling to remain in one piece. Chains of blinding white fire pinned him to the throne, burning holes through the darkness he wore like skin. Each flame hissed as it devoured him, and every hiss was a scream swallowed by the storm.
A figure approached the throne—barefoot, hooded, robed in pale gold.
The scent of sanctified ash clung to them like cold perfume.
“You should not have returned,” the Shadow God rumbled, voice echoing like ten thousand graves collapsing at once.
The hooded figure lifted their head. Their eyes glowed the unforgiving white of newborn stars.
“I return,” they whispered, “to finish what you began.”
The Shadow God laughed—a low, broken sound.
“You speak of endings, little Light, but you do not understand them.”
The hooded figure raised their hand. The chains tightened. The Shadow God roared as white fire tore through his form, unraveling him from within.
“You will die tonight,” the hooded figure said. “And with you, the age of Shadow.”
“But not without a legacy,” the Shadow God breathed.
In the depths of the swirling darkness, something pulsed—small, fragile, glowing faint amethyst. A seed. A spark. A beginning born from an ending.
The hooded figure froze.
“No… You wouldn’t dare.”
The Shadow God smiled—a jagged, terrible curve of darkness.
“I already have.”
The storm exploded outward.
Shadows screamed and scattered like frightened birds.
The ground cracked open, swallowing the throne in a violent shudder.
The white fire consumed him.
The Shadow God died.
But the spark did not.
It shot upward like a comet of darkness and light intertwined, cutting across the heavens and vanishing into the mortal world—into a cradle not yet carved, into a fate not yet shaped.
The hooded figure stared into the night sky, horror bleeding into their otherwise divine calm.
“A child…” they whispered.
“A shadowborn heir.”
The prophecy took its first breath.
Centuries later, in the ruins of a nameless village, a baby girl opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was darkness.
The first thing darkness saw… was Nyra Valoch.
And it bent.
